MacBook Pro fails to recognise Apple Studio Display from cold start

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this one..

My Macbook Pro (2024 MB Pro M4 Pro) is connected to an apple studio display using the supplied connector. When I switch off the macbook pro and then later switch it on again, it fails to recognise the connected monitor (it does recognise the power coming from the connector however) even when physically disconnected and reconnected. The only way to resolve is to physically switch off the studio display and power it back on again and then reconnect it to the laptop.

Putting the mac to sleep whilst connected to the monitor sees no issues and the monitor remains connected.

I have absolutely no idea what's causing this one - it's quite recent .. suspect it's the recent 26.1 update. I'm not running any software that I think could be causing this, and have also run the EtreCheck application on the off-chance it could find something obvious (there is nothing obvious to my eyes anyway but happy to paste the report if anyone wants)

any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated !

Kind regards

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.1
