Mail app taking up 6BG despite not being used

In trying to clear up some free space on my Mac, the storage shows the Mail app is using 6.72GB of data. I don't even use the mail app (and never have to my knowledge). I realize I cannot delete the Mail app, but I want to get rid of the data it's holding because it's a giant waste of space. Where does the data for the Mail app live? So far I've checked ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail but the largest of these folders has only 3MB of data. See attached what appears when I open the Mail app. How do I get rid of this garbage?
