CarPlay Messages alerts stopped working after iOS 26.1 on iPhone 16 Pro

Messages alerts used to pop up at the bottom of the car screen which allowed a readout of the message after selecting it. After iOS 26.1 on iPhone 16 Pro the alerts stopped but the red message count on the Messages icon was present.

Restarting the iPhone solved the problem.

Before restarting the option “Show in CarPlay” was not present in the Alerts section of Notifications > Messages.

After restarting the option was present and selected on.
