In October 2019, a friend gifted me his one year old iPhone XS Max. it has his ownership details on it. I have a new iPhone17 Pro Max. How do I make sure that my details are on it not his? Will they transfer automatically with my data and apps? Thanks.

The phone that you receive will look just like a new phone, so you or someone else will need to set it up from scratch. In other words, when you power up the gifted phone, you will see the "hello" screen to walk you through the setup.
Do NOT accept the phone unless you see the "hello" screen.
