That red badge leads you to a mandatory check-up screen for Emergency SOS settings.

Apple added this in recent iOS versions as a safety feature — think of it as your iPhone saying:

“Hey, before something serious happens, let’s make sure your Emergency SOS is set up correctly.”

Here’s why that screen appears:

1. iOS now periodically asks you to confirm SOS settings

If Apple detects that:

• You’ve never reviewed these options, or
• something changed after an update, or
• Your region/carrier requires a confirmation of how SOS calls work,

It adds a red badge directing you to this “Emergency SOS settings check.”

2. It’s there to ensure you know how SOS triggers work

Because pressing buttons accidentally can call real emergency services, Apple wants users to:

• know which triggers are enabled (hold + release, 5 presses),
• confirm their emergency contacts,
• Review Silent Call (so you don’t freak out when it doesn’t make a sound).

3. It disappears after you open and complete the check

Once you tap it and the iPhone sees that the screen was visited, the badge usually clears.

4. It usually appears after iOS updates

iOS 26.x triggered this for many users worldwide. Part of Apple’s “safety audit” push.
