iPhone 13 side buttons not working after update

My side buttons no longer work on iPhone 13 IOS26.1 after recent update. I have restarted my phone and confirmed that control side buttons is enabled. It is also not on mute.

I do believe it was do to the update-none of those other options apply. I had to go into the accessibility function to get it to work. I never had any issues prior. Never had to use this function before. Appreciate the response though.

If the update did this, it would do this to everyone who updated. But it didn't. If you have to use accessibility features to operate your phone and side buttons still don't work, you have a hardware issue and it's time to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation and options.

You asked about iOS 26.1 iOS 26.2 was released this week. Have you updated to the now current iOS 26.2?

After EVERY iOS update, the first time I do on ALL of my devices is a simple Forced Restart --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Did you do that?

Buckeye4ever ~ Here's one way that may be the case: Your iPhone 13 could be >4 years old and the long process of applying a major iOS upgrade to an iPhone with a weak, aging battery can be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back." The result can be various issues and 'unexpected behaviors.'. So...

Does your iPhone 13 still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

For what it is worth I purchased this phone off Amazon August 25, 2025 and the battery life is still at maximum 100%. This was a refurbished excellent phone that has had 0 issues. The post was intended to let Apple know the issues in the event this happened to more individuals. I have since gotten my phone to work fine after accessing settings. The point is I have never had to do this before with any IPhones I have had and had 0 issues prior to the update. After playing around my phone works fine again and I do not need any more response to the original post, thank you
