Why does my brand-new MacBook Pro M4 not work right when I use iMovie? It gets slow and takes forever to do anything.

What version of iMovie? Have you updated to the latest? You might be running an old version under Rosetta.

I'm using version 10.4.3 on iMovie.

The only thing I can suggest is restart in Safe Mode and see if it runs differently.
