Here is some of Apple's guidance on the subject:

Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support

If you can't connect your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad to your Mac - Apple Support

If you cannot get the mouse to reconnect using the info in these links, then I suggest buying or borrowing a USB (wired) mouse so that you can access your Mac's Bluetooth Settings... menu.

From there you can "Forget this device" and then pair it again with the Mac.

Thanks, D.I. Was using a wired mouse to access the bluetooth settings, but it continued several times to attempt to connect, then fail. Rebooted, tried several more times and failed. Was about to go your forget this device route and for whatever reason, the magic mouse began to finally begin its search blinking after I turned it on. I then used the wired mouse in bluetooth settings to attempt to connect. This time it worked. Who knows why. I had earlier printed out both the support articles and had been following them. Status: up and running and on with life. Thanks for your kindness in posting.
