Hello, I updated to macOS 26.2 and am experiencing serious issues with wallpapers: first of all, they are displayed in low resolution, and the problem worsens if you use a non-native resolution or an external monitor.
In addition, all my aerial wallpapers have disappeared, both downloaded and undownloaded.
I don't know how to solve
MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.2
Has worked after a hard reboot
Can confirm I have the same exact issue after updating to 26.2, and that it only happens when one or more apps are in full-screen mode. Taking all apps out of full-screen mode instantly restores the wallpaper to proper "retina" density/resolution.
Edit: to fix the issue with aerial wallpaper I deleted the entire folder and rebooted:
~/Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.wallpaper
Understood. I have no blurriness no matter what I do. Have you tested while in Safe Mode?
do you add Space on mission control? If you have another Space using the same wallpaper it will blurry but if you change wallpaper on the another Space it will normal

To be proactive you can file a bug report / submit your feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple
Already done!
For dynamic backgrounds, I solved the problem by deleting the plist files so that they were regenerated, but the low resolution remains.
Update: The problem seems to only occurs when you have at least one app in full-screen mode; otherwise, it does not seem to occur.
BTW, does it only happen with Dynamic/Aerial wallpapers? What about static Wallpapers?
Okay. Well let us know what happens in Safe Mode.
Tried: it happens also in safe mode 🤔
Sure, it's easy:
No, I don't add spaces, I just press the green button to put a single app in full screen mode.
And, anyway, I've had macOS since 2011 and this is the first time this has happened. None of this can be considered normal behavior.
Try putting a window in full-screen mode and returning to the desktop; you will see that the problem occurs again.
I have observed that this also occurs with an external monitor (but then the issue only persists on the monitor where there is also a full-screen window).
Same. When I have an app in fullscreen mode my wallpaper has low resolution and when close the app - resolution goes back to high quality. It happens at least with all dynamic wallpaper (day/night modes).
macOS 26.2: wallpaper are now Low-res and missing aerial wallpapers
