iPod shuffle connection problem

Mac Music program on my 2023 Mac mini running Tahoe 25.1 recognizes 4th generation iPod shuffle running iOS 1.0.3 and I can see all the songs on it. But it won't play through the Music app and I can't sync settings and change the music or add voice over. The screen identifies it as error -244. The iPod does playback just fine, but I'd like to change the songs and add VoiceOver. Are there any workarounds?
