Does the internal keyboard work correctly? If so, it sounds like hardware damage on the external one, and it would need repair or replacement.
Thanks for response, internal keyboard works correctly, it is only the w, s & x keys that won't respond when the shift key (both left and right) is depressed in order to capitalise. It's just odd as it is so specific. Your input is much appreciated.
3 keys in a column like that is typical of hardware damage, and any software problems would normally affect both internal and external keyboards the same way. You could try another external keyboard to verify further, or try your current keyboard on another machine.
