Unless you are using a different Apple Account for iCloud than for Media & Purchases, you should be able to change it in System Settings ➜ Account ➜ Sign In & Security ➜ Password ➜ Change Password.

If you are using a different account for Media & Purchases than for iCloud in the previous menu, then you will need to log in at https://account.apple.com with the Media & Purchases account and change the password there.

Hi Phil, thanks so much for your reply, it got me hopeful.

My situation is that I do have a different Media & Purchases a/c from my iCloud a/c, this is a hangover from my early use of iTunes.

I received a notice from Apple that someone had tried to log into this a/c so I thought it best to try to change the password.

I was sure that prior to 26.2 there was an option to do so in settings but either I was mistaken or it has changed.

I logged out of the a/c in settings and was directed to log back in via Apple Music or the App store. I could log back in but not change the password. This is the background.

I tried your link and this gave me a rejection as below:

This of course makes sense as it's more secure. Unfortunately it did not give me the how to do this on the Mac.

I figured that it could be possible to log out of my iCloud a/c and use the iTunes login to log back into the iCloud a/c in settings but logging out would mean deleting credit cards etc. so I just wonder if there is not an easier way?

Changing a password in today's age of so much phishing etc. should be the easiest step to take so I wonder if you or anyone else in the community has other ideas.

I have been a Mac user since the Performa so feel I am relatively savvy tech wise.

Many thanks/Andy R

No, signing out does to delete cards from the iCloud account. It may delete cards from Wallet though, but those can be re-added simply enough.

If it's not letting you do it from the Website, then you will need to have a device signed in to the account.

On your Mac go to System Settings ➜ Apple Account, and scroll all the way to the bottom, and click on Sign Out.
