iPad Pro (iOS 26.2) not recognising USB wireless mouse/keyboard through USB-C hub or adapter. But works fine on iPhone 16 (iOS 26.1).

I have an iPad Pro (11 inch) (3rd gen) recently upgraded to iPadOS 26.2 and an iPhone 16 running iOS 26.1. I am trying to configure a wireless USB keyboard and mouse combination to run on the iPad. But nothing I have tried so far has been successful. Strangely, the setup works fine on my iPhone, using either a USB-A to USB-C adapter directly connected to the iPhone’s USB-C port, or connecting the USB-A wireless dongle to a powered USB-C hub that is connected to the iPhone’s USB-C port. However, nothing is being recognised when I try either option on my iPad. Note, I have activated the ‘Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch’ option on both iPad and iPhone, which appears to be a requirement.

Can anyone shed any light on what the issue could be with the iPad as I really need mouse/keyboard support for working on remote Excel sessions from the iPad.

TIA

iPad Pro, iPadOS 26

Given that your USB-connected function as expected when connected to your iPhone 16's USB-C port, the same arrangement should work with your iPad. You should note that if you are connecting a USB transceiver to support third-party wireless accessories, these are unlikely to be supported by iOS/iPadOS without installing a companion App (where available) from the Accessories manufacturer.

As an initial diagnostic exercise, ensure that you have enabled your iPad to accept connection of USB devices:

Settings > Privacy & Security > [Security] Wired Accessories > [Allow Accessories to Connect - set to Always Allow

Should the problem persist, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated or post-update software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the restart does not clear the problem, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:
