Files app on iPad not opening Word documents

Files app on iPad iOS 18.6.2 no longer opens my files. I have shut down etc and restarted, no success. They open successfully on my iPhone, so the docs are safely on the cloud, but the screen there is too small for me to work easily. The message given is ‘no preview available, open the file in Word to view it. Get Word.’ The files are originally written on Word on my laptop. Any help appreciated.
