Old last name showing on sent emails

I've updated my new last name everywhere that I can find and it shows with my Apple ID. But when I send an email from iCloud, it is the only place that still shows my old last name. I've went into my Apple ID, iCloud, mail, everywhere that I can think of and cannot figure out where it is pulling the old last name from. Thoughts?

For a test I changed my name where I told you to do. Then I wrote an email to be sent to another of my addresses. In the From field, my new name was there, but when I received the message it was still with my old name.

The reason, I believe, is that mail clients look into the user's address book to find a matching email address. If it finds one, it uses the name in that record. If the address is not found, then it uses the name used by the sender as a fallback.

Therefore, it looks like all your regular recipients would need to update their address book to associate your email address with a new name.

What Apple device? If on a Mac, in the Mail menubar click the Window menu and select "Previous Recipients":

Scroll the resulting list for your old name and, if you find it, delete it.

I cannot find Apple instructions for this on an iPhone or iPad. A web search for "clear recent mail recipients on iPhone" picks uip some non-Apple instructions.

First, make sure your old name does not still exist in Contacts. You may find it from starting a new email message on your phone. I found a listing for my old e-mail address that's been dark for 4 years by entering my last name in the "to:" field in iPhone Mail.

Clicking the "circle-i" info icon for that entry took me to a Contacts card with the out-of serice address which I zapped.. Might work for your name as well.
