Air dropping from iPhone to MacBook Air and getting from downloads to Photos problem

I know some changes were made to Photos in one of the recent past updates but this is my problem. When I take a photo on my iPhone, I have always in the past been able to airdrop to my laptop (MacBook Air). The photos would show up in Downloads, no problem, then I would easliy move them to Photos by clicking on them and moving with my mouse to Photos in Imports.

Now when I do that, it acts like they are moving but they don't show up anywhere, not Imports, not LIbrary, not Recently Saved, not Recently Viewed.... I am not able to find them anywhere. It is frustrating as it used to be so each moving them from Downloads to Photos.

In order to move them without having to connect my iPhone via a usb cable, I select the picture in Downloads, Copy, open Photos, Select Imports and Paste. It used to be so easy to get photos from my iPhone to my Photos app on my laptop but now it has so many steps to get them moved.

Why was this changed from a simple easy process to something with more steps to it? In addition, why has Imports been moved towards the bottom of my list of folders in Photos when it used to be towards the top. When I open Photos, I have to scroll down thru all my folders to the bottom to get to Imports, such a waste of time.

Please tell me what is going on and why such a lengthy process when it used to be so easy.

Thanks
