Home button is rotating

I have an old iPod Touch 7th Gen, and after gently removing a home button sticker (that was already falling off), to place a new glass screen protector on (something I’ve always routinely done with no prior problems), the home button is now staring to be able to rotate 😳. Sometimes the action of clicking it (at the wrong angle) to turn the device on or go to the Home Screen from an app makes it twist, and I’ve noticed *sometimes* it’s now delayed in the command to turn on.

I need to replace the screen protector with a new one because it’s now bubbling up around the home button, but it seems like the glass cover got misaligned, it’s as if the top of the home button itself got stuck under the adhesive, when I laid it down. Like it catches now.

Here’s an image to depict this.

I know Apple doesn’t repair their own retired iPods now, but is there anything I can do (apart from removing the glass cover and cleaning it) that might fix this, or prevent further issues (is the home button eventually going to eventually stop working or pop off?)?
