I have a Macbook air 2017 and I am trying to connect to a Toshiba TV via a HDMI cable and my Minidisplay port. This worked fine with my Macbook air 2013 but now it does not work. Everything looks right until I turn on the TV, it just says "no video signal". Any suggestions?

Here is some of Apple's guidance:
Use your TV as a display with Mac - Apple Support
Have you set up mirroring in the System Settings > Displays?
What video cable and/or adapter are you using?
Well the thing is that when I set up mirroring is Displays it looks good but as soon as I turn on the Toshiba TV everything goes back to the original setting where I cannot choose mirroring??? I use HDMI cable connected to an adapter to my mini display port.
Check the display resolution. You may have to select something different.
Check the manual for the Toshiba to see what resolutions it supports.
Start with the (Default) resolution of the MacBook Air. I'm not sure just what that is, but it's a good place to start.
You may have to toggle ON the "Show all resolutions" switch to view others.
Change your Mac display’s resolution - Apple Support
If the Toshiba has multiple input options, then make sure you have selected the intended input.
You may have to use the Toshiba remote to do that.

Thanks, I will try that though my feeling is that the problem is that there is no connection between the Macbook and the TV. Maybe I should buy a new HDMI cable to start with?
