What's a safe DuckDuckGo Downloadable Version for late 2013, OS 10.15.7 Catalina?

Is there a safe version of the DuckDuckGo Browser that I can download, that's compatible with my iMac OS 10.15.7? If so, what URL should I use to download it onto my iMac, OS Catalina? My iMac is late 2013, Memory: 16Gb 1600 MHz DDR3. Thanks in advance for your helpful replies. Have a good 2026!

Perhaps you're not aware this type of online browser can

used directly from their hosted webpage, w/o incident?

My macs use DDG from within supported browsers

& most mine are older than Catalina macOS 10.15.7.

https://duckduckgo.com/ https://brave.com/

Download Firefox ESR

https://www.firefox.com/en-US/

DuckDuckGo is independent of many practical browsers

except where they have made versions for different OS.

Example:

https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ftsa&q=Hult%C3%A9n+botantist+hard+cover+archive+publication+1800s&ia=web

While I've never downloaded or installed DDG, it does

a great job with earlier MacOS; before High Sierra. An

older iMac Early 2009 with El Capitan 10.11.6 uses it.

So as long as you are NOT going to rely on Extensions

that downloads may try and install, online Just Works.

And that leads me to ask a redundant question. Why?

..Choose in your Safari browser, to use DuckDuckGo..

Or get and use a FireFox ESR version, to run DDG there.

Safari still works OK for sites; but isn't as secure at FFx.

Also Brave browser is a prime choice; you can choose

to narrow its focus and avoid ads; some youtube items

may run without as many commercial breaks in a video.

Dear DialABrain, thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. My motivation was to be able to use on my iMac the DuckDuckGo feature that enables one to watch YouTube without the interruption of ads (like I can on my iPhone 14. I would so love to do that. Do you know, is there a way I can do that using the DuckDuckGo option that's usable on/with Firefox? Thanks for your kind, considerate care. Have a great New Year.

While there was an ESR version of Firefox that was listed (for a while) as being compatible with Catalina, the current version of Firefox will run on Catalina. No need to install an older ESR version just yet.

The current version of Brave requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or higher.

A thread in the Brave Community has a pointer to an old copy of Brave, on Github, that is supposed to work on Catalina. However, I do not know if this is an official distribution.

Be sure you are not conflating DuckDuckGo search engine and DuckDuckGo browser.

DuckDuckGo search engine (an equivalent to Google search) can be selected for use inside many Browsers through a simple selection is settings. No download is generally required.

DuckDuckGo Browser can be used Instead of Safari, or Firefox. [N.B. I am not specifying Chrome Browser because you should NEVER have the invasive and resource hogging Chrome Browser installed on your Mac AT ALL.]

Servant of Cats:

limits were drawn in the past years' ESR Firefox ~ as usual: follows Apple

[ Download Firefox ESR ]

As my Late 2012 (bought new from Apple Dec 2014) limits by hardware

at Catalina 10.15.7 & most affordable upgrades were done. Download of

last supported Mac OS was done, but not installed. ~ Only Mojave 10.14

is the highest macOS in my four different Macintosh computers here.

.My oldest Mac mini G4 'last PPC Mac mini' high spec w/ Leopard 10.5.8.

Link(s) above download live from Mozilla Firefox ESR.

https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-esr115-latest-ssl&os=osx&lang=en-US

Also the limits to Brave have been pulled along too.

(From my Mac mini (intel) Brave browser in macOS 10.13.6)

To get future Brave updates, you'll need MORE recent macOS.
