Perhaps you're not aware this type of online browser can
used directly from their hosted webpage, w/o incident?
My macs use DDG from within supported browsers
& most mine are older than Catalina macOS 10.15.7.
https://duckduckgo.com/ https://brave.com/
Download Firefox ESR
https://www.firefox.com/en-US/
DuckDuckGo is independent of many practical browsers
except where they have made versions for different OS.
Example:

While I've never downloaded or installed DDG, it does
a great job with earlier MacOS; before High Sierra. An
older iMac Early 2009 with El Capitan 10.11.6 uses it.
So as long as you are NOT going to rely on Extensions
that downloads may try and install, online Just Works.
And that leads me to ask a redundant question. Why?
..Choose in your Safari browser, to use DuckDuckGo..
Or get and use a FireFox ESR version, to run DDG there.
Safari still works OK for sites; but isn't as secure at FFx.
Also Brave browser is a prime choice; you can choose
to narrow its focus and avoid ads; some youtube items
may run without as many commercial breaks in a video.
