Trouble exporting photos from iPad to SanDisk drive

I am trying to export photos from my iPad to a SanDisk Dual Drive Go 512 GB device. After I select all the photos I want to export, when I go to SAVE, I get a screen with the photo number and “don’t have permission to view.” I tried looking for solutions on line and everything suggested is correct on the iPad. I am using an iPad Air running iOS 26.2.

I did this same thing with my iPhone and had no issues. iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 26.2.

Any help is appreciated.

You've done this on your phone, so it sounds like you know what you're doing. But you didn't say what I expected. When I want to export pictures from my iPad to an external drive, I select them in Photos, choose Share, and I might set Options for format, etc. Then I choose either Export Unmodified Originals or Save to Files, and then I navigate to the connected drive. Then I might add a folder, or not, and then I hit Save. Is that what you're doing? What choices are you making? Originals or not? If not, what format?

How is your drive formatted? The format often includes permissions-- here's an example of the info from a Mac:

You can see at the bottom that I have checked "Ignore ownership," and I've also have read and write permission. Have you checked your drive? You may need a computer to get full information…

Hello Richard,

  • The format is exFAT
  • I did try both Export Unmodified Originals and Save to File and got the same permission message. I could not SAVE in either format.
  • The pictures are from various sources such as Canon DSLR camera, Apple iPhones and iPads, and photos sent to me.
  • Some pictures are originals while others have been modified.

Again, these are the same or similar pictures that I had no trouble downloading from my iPhone.

Thanks and Happy New Year.
