Possible virus in APPLE E-Mail...

I have a MAC PRO with IOS 26. Something suddenly started effecting my Apple Email. My antivirus keeps arresting the same virus attacks, but cannot eliminate the threat. The Apple MNail keeps downloading and downloading messages and, at times, just shuts down. It seems the Apple Mail app has an internal virus, but I have no idea how to check it or stop it. I have shut down the Mail, restated the computer and no change. The Mail Client behavior does not seem normal, but apparently I cannot delete it and reload, so...SUGGESTIONS???

There is no chance you're running iOS 26 on a MacPro. Maybe MacOS 26, but iOS is exclusively for iPhone and iPad-based devices.

That said, it's highly unlikely that there's a virus attacking Mail.app, per se. It is possible there's some problem with your mailbox that's gotten corrupted, and it's possible you've been sent a corrupt email that is tripping up Mail.app, but neither of these are conclusively a virus, per se.

If the problem is with the mailbox itself, launch Mail, select your InBox and choose Mailbox -> Rebuild.

This will rebuild the index of messages in your inbox and may clear the problem.

If the problem lies with a message that has yet to be downloaded, the resolution may be different depending on which account the message is in. You may have a web-based interface to your mail account (such as iCloud - https://icloud.com/mail/ or Gmail - > https://mail.google.com/ ). Other accounts such as Exchange/MS Office may also have something similar. You can try logging into the account via the web interface to clear out any messages, then relaunch Mail.app.

Uninstall your third party anti virus app. Such apps use system resources while providing no benefit, and they may cause problems such as reporting false virus'.

What is the message being reported by the add-on anti-malware app? And which anti-malware app?

You may well either need to remove the malfunctioning third-party anti-malware app, or to discuss the malfunction and diagnostics with the app vendor, too.

Add-on security apps can sometimes introduce noise, snd sometimes introduce issues and vulnerabilities, and unfortunately also sometimes causing corruptions.
