Compatibility between Tahoe 26.2 and a Brother printer

I have a Mac Air, OS Tahoe 26.2, and a Brother mono laser printer, HL-L2405W. Both worked well together until I updated to Tahoe 26.2. Since the recent update, my printer hasn't been printing. I add it to the printer list under Printers and Scanners. But when I click to print, nothing happens. I consistently get a message that there is an invalid certificate. I cannot update it. When I use the printer's address in my browser ( have tried both Firefox and Safari), I get the same response that I am not allowed to go forward.

I have talked with Brother's customer service and been referred to the highest level for tech help. I called Apple Support but the recommendations given were things I had tried. I also called Spectrum and talked with a tech person. He wasn't familiar with the invalid certification. Why, even, AI says there is a problem with an invalid certification and the printer's internal clock is out of date. I researched and couldn't find info about the printer's internal clock. I am at my wit's end. With each of the above people contacts, I shared the info from Ai that there is a problem with downloading the firmware and that neither Apple nor Brother accepts responsibility for the problem. I have use both products for several decades and had compatibility. I don't any other options to consider. Help, please!

Thanks CT, I updated firmware to I.28/1.11 (latest as of 2/2/26) and did as you instructed as you instructed.I got both household MacBook laptops, our iPhones, and my iPad to be able to print using this method. I'm attaching instructions I followed. Appreciate the assistance!

Resetting Printing System & Manually Re-adding Brother DCPL2640DW

to Resolve Persistent Connection Errors

Resetting your printing system and manually re-adding your

Brother DCP-L2640DW can resolve persistent connection or driver issues.

Here is the step-by-step process for macOS 15+ (Sequoia/Tahoe).

1. Reset the Printing System

Warning: This will delete all existing printers, scanners, and pending print

jobs from your Mac.

• Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings.

• Scroll down the sidebar and select Printers & Scanners.

• Control-click (or right-click) anywhere in the empty area or on an

existing printer in the list.

• Select Reset Printing System... and click Reset when the confirmation

prompt appears.

2. Find Your Printer's IP Address

You must have the printer's current IP to add it manually.

• On the printer's control panel, press Menu.

• Navigate to Print Reports > Network Configuration (or WLAN Report)

and press OK.

• The printer will print a sheet; look for the "IP Address" field

(e.g., 192.168.1.50 ).

3. Add the Printer via IP with AirPrint

• Return to Printers & Scanners in System Settings.

• Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax....

• In the window that appears, click the IP icon (the blue globe at the top).

• Address: Enter the printer's IP address.

• Protocol: Select AirPrint from the dropdown menu.

o Note: If "AirPrint" isn't listed, choose Internet Printing Protocol -

IPP..

• Use: Ensure this is set to AirPrint (macOS should auto-detect this once

the IP is verified).

• Click Add.

For a permanent solution, have you considered setting a Static IP for the

printer in your router settings to prevent the address from changing in the

future?

Mind the protocol when defining an IP printer : the is no http:// or https:// prefix, only the 4 sequences of 0-255 digits separated by dots, as in 192.168.0.150. It took me a while to figure out.

Firmware update was a mess, It had to be wifi, not USB, with the Brother Iscan &print software available on the app store : it will need your local wifi network name and password (the same you use to hook up any device to your network). The Brother Firmware update package was useless in this case.
