Highlights disappear from PDFs in Books app on macOS - Resolution FOUND

Preview Highlights Disappear - Resolved

I had a problem where all the highlights I made on a pdf disappeared. I'm using macOS Tahoe 26.8. I tried to see previous versions with no luck.

I have been opening the book from Books. Then I went to the file itself (saved on my Documents folder). I found all the highlights there. I tried to open the file using Open With --> Books, then I found that 2 copies of the book are there.

The conclusion. If you want to see the highlights, don't use Books, just go to the pdf file and Open With Preview
