Upper corner swipe for Control Center broken

iphone ios 18.6.2 control center - I’ve been struggling with the CC corner swipe since the last auto upgrade. I have to do it twice now. First one display lock screen (like top swipe) 2nd corner swipe shows control center. In searches for fixes & bug reports I found suggestions to restart, change languages & other nonsense. I am not the only person I know with this issue, so I know it’s something Apple did.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 18

Thanks for the suggestion. As mentioned, my usual process is first to decide what type of pilot error might be the cause? Then what did I do to my phone? Then what changed on the phone w/o my knowledge? Then Does someone else have this problem and if so someone else must know why? I stumbled upon the solution. I'm not sure exactly when this change happened, but as I mentioned, it only impacted me a few weeks back, which seems odd.

I have been focussed on the display settings & swipe options. The last time I looked at the Control Center settings it only had "allow access when locked". I happened to check it yesterday and the setting is now "Access Within Apps" and the default is apparently "off". (or perhaps it carried over the switch from the previous toggle?) I'm not sure why anyone would want to disable that while your phone is unlocked, but there it was. I flipped it to ON and now the phone is behaving as it did before.

I will report it as feedback, but I guess it's operating as designed, regardless of how silly I might feel that design is. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Well, I certainly don’t want to interrupt your speaking to folks off line (since obviously none of us here do), and god forbid you run the risk of living on a forum (how does one do that, anyway?). As already noted, we don’t seem to have others reporting this issue, and I can’t find anyone among family and friends (adding up to over fifty iPhones all told) with this issue or even duplicate it in any way, I’ll have to chalk this up as a unique user circumstance. I recommend you report it to Apple here: Product Feedback - Apple

If practical, you might also consider making an appointment with the genius bar at an Apple store.

I'm on this forum every day and you're the first person I've seen post about this as an issue. It's certainly not an issue for me on any of our devices, nor for anyone I know. Thus, Apple didn't do something to make opening control center more difficult.

You're on an out of date iOS version on your iPhone. The first thing I'd do is update my iPhone to the current iOS 26.2, then force restart after the update --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

You're also using an iPhone which is now over 4 years old. The battery in your iPhone may aging out. Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health - if the health is at, near or below 80%, the useful life of the battery has been spent and it's time to have the battery replaced in your iPhone.

If, after that you are still having an issue opening control center, you likely have a hardware issue with touch on your screen and you should schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar to have your phone tested and service options --> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

I tried the things mentioned; restart, language change, settings reset. None of them helped. I know other people have the issue as they are folks I personally know (some of us out here still talk in person). There are quite a few people who have issues like this that are extremely annoying, who spend weeks thinking they’re just swiping wrong, or the phone is degrading, or if we only tilt left while facing East it will start to work correctly again. We are the people who don’t live on forums but only think of checking here when google/Bing/DuckDuckGo fail us and we have time to sit down and dedicate some attention to a solution (like now, pre-dawn on a holiday week). Btw-love your handle.Great book!
