Thunderbird email notification sound on MacBook High Sierra

Macbook 2010, Mac OS High Sierra (10.13.6).

I use the Thunderbird program.

When I receive an email, a notification appears and an audio signal is played.

The question is based on the sound signal. In the Thunderbird program itself, I disabled the signals. There is no such sound signal in System Settings - Sounds.

How can I change the sound and volume of this alarm?

This sound is turned on and off here: Apple - System Preferences... - Notifications - Thunderbird - check mark: Play sound for notifications.

But once again, I note that the Thunderbird program has its own sound, but I turned it off. If you turn on the sound of the Thunderbird program, then there will be two sounds during the appearance of the letter: one is the sound of the Mac OS operating system, the second is the sound of the Thunderbird program.

The first help article to which Rudegar linked provided an answer as to how Thunderbird could be playing a sound that isn't in System Settings > Sounds. You could have configured Thunderbird to use an arbitrary file which was stored somewhere "loose" in the file system on your computer.

As to adjusting sound volume, if Thunderbird does not provide its own controls for that, I don't see how you could expect others to come up with a Thunderbird-specific control for you. I do not use Thunderbolt, but you could do some experiments to see if it is using the system Alert volume or the system Output volume.

Re: “The Mac OS itself beeps when an email arrives in the Thunderbird program.”

It is unlikely that macOS beeps on its own. More likely, you have one or more e-mail client applications (including possibly the regular Mail client( that are connected to your email account, and that beep or send notifications when they detect new mail.

I would suggest checking all applications that you have set up to receive mail.
