After taking a second look at your vid, I hear you pressing the Touch ID button.

What is happening then is normal operation of the button and the OS. I can recreate it on my own MBA under Sequoia.

A single press of the TID button takes the Mac to the lock screen. A second press - or simply touching the button - returns me to the desktop or app I was using.

To me, your Touch ID button appears to be working just fine. It is, in fact, a multi-function button; press it to boot the Mac, simply touch it to ID a fingerprint and proceed, or press it to lock the screen.

Am I missing something?

I do note that if I press the TID button too quickly after the Mac awakens or returns to the desktop, then yes, it may require a second press to lock the screen again; a sign of a process not quite completed. If I allow 0:02 elapse, then the trigger works every time.

Do you often request the Mac to lock the screen immediately after being unlocked?

If so, there is a key chord for locking the screen; control-command-Q (⌃⌘Q).

Since reinstalling macOS 26.2 didn’t help and no one has come up with a fix (including Apple technical support) it’s likely the only thing you can do is submit feedback expressing your concern. If enough people who feel the same submit feedback perhaps Apple will notice.

For the time being you’ll just have to live with it. I don't know what else we fellow users can do for you at this time.

Didn't you notice how many times you click before the screen locks? The screen locks on the first click, then unlocks when I touch it again, but it doesn't lock on the third click, only on the fourth. On the Sequoia version, it works perfectly fine every time I click, but on the Tahoe 26.2, the screen locks with a delay. Check how many clicks it takes before the screen locks again.
