It should be the small hole right above the middle of the display.

That image is of your iMac with its screen removed.

If you look up the Apple Repair Guide for your 2019 Retina 4K 21.5-inch iMac, on page 84 you'll find reference to the microphone ribbon cable. It'll be found at the location indicated in my previous post.

I don't currently have access to my family's 2019 21.5-inch iMac or I'd take a pic, but to show an example of the very discreet, almost invisible location of the mic on top the 2013 27-inch iMac, I present this pic. You might closely inspect the chin of your iMac for similar drilling. Though it may be different.

this is correct iMac 2019 21.5 and 27" mic -- the small pinhole UNDER THE SCREEN ASSEMBLY as pictured

the actual mic is the super delicate ribbon cable

CLOSEUP of above detail without the sealing tape in place (note the ribbon cable running vertical -- the mic head is glued to the pinhole openings)

here's a look at an actual 2019 iMac microphone ribbon cable part, and its installation on the main board

pictured just before the cable slides into the connector -- notice the little flip lever on the right of the connector that secures the cable -- that's very easy to miss and damage the delicate mic cable -- if your microphone doesn't work after working on it -- the cable is probably not seated correctly or is damaged (I learned the hard way)

recommend buying an external mic for actual recording -- for anything beyond Siri and general dictation...

While my Early 2009 24-inch iMac works great (mac10.11.6)

so does the built-in microphone. re: A tiny hole in the fascia.

I've opened and disassembled more than a dozen -- 2019 iMacs in both 21.5" 4k and 27' 5k models (no iMac Pro models) -- including i3 HDD, i5 Fusion and SSD, i7 Fusion units, including battery, NVMe SSD, SATA SSD and RAM replacements

all units had the same mic placement I pictured (the three holes) -- you have to remove the screen assembly to see the holes -- you can't see the mic with the screen glued on

I am interested in what you are seeing there

pls post a screenshot of your "About this Mac"

if it indeed IDs as 2019 hardware, please post photos of your rear ports and front:
