Hello Apple Community So Currently I have an iPhone as my secondary device and have an android as my main. And I’m switching my main device to an iPhone 15 so if I put my main on the same iCloud as my secondary will my photos and message like delete or something or do I need a new iCloud for my main.

Let’s clarify some terms, as “putting a device on the same iCloud” is not really in Apple’s vocabulary.

  • iCloud - Apple’s cloud service, enabling users to sync data across their own Apple devices.
  • Apple Account (formerly called Apple ID) - The personal account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, iCloud, Messages, and more. It includes the information you use to sign in, as well as all the contact, payment, and security details that you’ll use across Apple services.

So I guess you’re asking about using the same Apple Account as you currently have. You absolutely should do that, as that defines you and your data. Doing that will have no effect on your old device when you set up your iPhone 15. But before disposing of your old device:

Also, to emphasize what sberman said, for Apple and for iCloud there is no "Main" or "Secondary" devices. Certainly you may use them that way, but they are treated by iCloud identically.

I think of my MacBookPro as my Primary device, because it downloads the originals and can be backed up to an external drive. I think of my phone as subordinate, because its storage is Optimized. But if anything can be said to be "Main" about iCloud, it is iCloud.com, since all other connected devices are synchronized with it.
