Audio to TV sync issue

Audio issue connecting Macbook to Samsung TV using HDMI. I have a Macbook Air 2020. Everything is up to date. I use an HDMI cable to connect the Macbook to my Samsung TV so I can watch things from my laptop on the tv. Worked fine. Lately however, when I connect it this way, the video will play fine, as soon as I change the Audio output on my laptop to the tv, everything starts speeding up. The video and the audio go into sort of fast forward motion. I can fix it by changing it back to being audio output through the macbook, but then that means I have video on the tv, but audio from my laptop. Not ideal. how can I fix this please?
