Find My on my MBP stopped working after macOS Tahoe upgrade but settings insist Find My is working

Suddenly, Find My is disabled on my 16" M3 MacBook Pro (MBP) named "dionysus" now that it has been upgraded to macOS Tahoe 26.2. According to System Settings->Apple Account->Devices->dionysus, it says it is "off" and the Find My app on iCloud and my other Apple devices can't see dionysus. However, on dionysus, according to System Settings->Apple Account->iCloud->Saved to iCloud->Find My Mac, it says it is "on". Also, under System Settings->Privacy & Security->Location Services->Find My.app, it says it is "on". I have also verified that dionysus is logged into my iCloud account (Calendar and Contacts seem to be syncing with all my other Apple devices and all my other Apple devices can see each other but not dionysus). I've tried logging out of my iCloud account on dionysus and back in again and I've also tried switching Find My off and on again in the above mentioned System Setting locations, all to no avail. I've also rebooted dionysus without success. I'm confused as to why Find My is no longer working for dionysus (when it used to before) while some settings contradictorily insist it is working.

This is my personal machine, not any employer's nor school's machine. I installed LoJack way back when, which got bought out by Absolute. It has nothing to do with an MDM system and the Find My app was working fine under Sequoia until I installed Tahoe. Then it stopped working. I'm not even subscribed to their MDM system.

I would suggest that you uninstall Lojack/Absolute software. The Mac Lojack software came out in 2006 and was last updated (according to MacUpdate) in 2014. Meanwhile the Absolute security software seems to duplicate what Find My Mac would normally do, which raises the likelihood of a conflict.

Also, according to Absolute's FAQ on its website:

"We currently support devices running Windows 10 or 11 (Home and Pro) and macOS 13, 14, or 15.

... While our software may install successfully, it has only been tested on the above operating system versions ..."

It might have worked under Sequoia but the manufacturer does not indicate that it works with Tahoe.

Uh...what has Absolute got to do with Find My?

It may well be the cause of your problem.

Absolute is an MDM (mobile device management) provider, and it’s presence on your Mac means that your Mac is being managed by someone else (likely an employer/school, unless you subscribed and set it up yourself). One of the options with MDM is to disable the user’s ability to enable Find My (because the organization wants to prevent you from enabling Activation Lock, since that would prevent them from deploying the Mac to another user down the line).

I just tried your suggestion (switching to my iPhone's built-in hotspot and then back to my home WiFi) and it *DIDN'T* work. I checked the Find My Mac status and it remained "off" whether I was on the iPhone's built-in hotspot or back on my home WiFi as you can see:

Yet, these screens in Settings all proclaim that Find My Mac is set up correctly:

What happens if you open Find My in this same mac? Can it not find itself?

I know you tried logging out of iCloud and back in - a good troubleshooting step.

Did you try clicking here:

and

a) Making sure that both the settings are ON;

or

b) If they were already both on, turning them off, quitting System Settings, restarting your mac and set them both to ON again
