I can't install new Mac OS. (Recovery, DFU)
Hello everyone.
I have an unusual problem.
I recently bought a MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019, which came with macOS Catalina.
When I tried to install a newer version, I got the error: "This system image is damaged."
I tried downloading it from various sources, including the App Store.
Then I thought the issue might be the jump between versions, so I also tried installing Monterey/Big Sur — the result was the same: the installer is damaged.
Next, I tried installing the latest version, Tahoe, using the key combination at startup.
This time, I got an error saying: "An error occurred while preparing the system for update."
I've tried booting from USB drives with different versions of macOS.
I've tried resetting NVRAM, changing date settings, and using different system images.
Today, I tried restoring via DFU mode.
In Apple Configurator, the DFU window appears, but the MacBook itself doesn’t show up in Finder.
At that point, we had completely erased the disk, down to zero.
And the MOST INTERESTING thing is: when installing macOS Catalina via Internet Recovery using the key combination, it loads calmly and without any problems.
So to sum up: whether the system is installed or not, in DFU mode nothing appears in Finder, though a window does show in Apple Configurator.
But when trying to Revive/Restore, this error appears:
"The System cannot be restored on this device.
No applicable System images were provided."
We also tried changing the date and setting the correct time in Tahoe Recovery via Terminal.
It always complains about a damaged installer.
We also tried using a different Wi-Fi network — same result.
