macOS: Can't delete folder, "needs to be downloaded" error

"The operation can’t be completed because “DB Test” needs to be downloaded."

I messed up. I'm using an M1 iMac running current version of Tahoe.

I'm having problems with Dropbox and was trying to get an accurate measure of the size of my local Dropbox folder. I wanted it outside of its current location as the data size of the 'official' Dropbox folder is wrong.

So I copied al of the folders and pasted them into a new folder named DB test. I no longer need the information and when I try to delete DB Test I get the following message.

I can't figure out how to end what ever process is causing this. Can anyone help me end any process involved and delete the folder?

Thanks

iMac (M1, 2021)

Dropbox has an active discussions area and people posing queries there are usually answered quickly by both users and by Dropbox support.

I suspect that the problem is caused by the fact that the files I copied/pasted were connect to some Dropbox database.

Did you copy Dropbox files that were completely downloaded physically to your Mac? The Dropbox folder should be in your user Library=>CloudStorage folder. If some or all of the files are in the Dropbox cloud physically but are not physically (e.g. not downloaded) on your Mac, then you will see much smaller file sizes on your Mac. They are like small aliases or "handles" to the physical files that are online, in the cloud. Since those files would have a small "handle" on the Mac but need to be downloaded to be deleted, this could lead to that error message. As for file size discrepancies, what might those look like? Keep in mind that with APFS formatted drives, duplicating files might not increase file storage usage in the way you expect because of the way that APFS keeps track of files.

I think making copies or duplicates of files that have been physically downloaded to, and reside on your Mac, should be fine. But if some of those files are only in the cloud (Dropbox cloud) and have not yet been downloaded, then making copies of those links/aliases and putting them in other locations on your Mac might lead to unpredictable results.

Also, you cannot move or change that CloudStorage folder location. If you try to, you may get anomalous results.
