iPhone 15 Messages notifications intermittently stop working

My Iphone 15 with IOS 26.2 will suddenly stop notifying me about messages. I havent done any thing with the settings; it just stops. Even the message icon on the phone will not let me know that a new message has shown up. Sometimes, turning the notifications off on the messages and then turning them on again, will work. If that doesn't work then turning off the message notifications, restarting the phone, and turning on message notifications will work but only for a very short time. Turning the phone off then on does not help. When the messages are not showing up on the phone, they sometimes will show up on Apple Carplay

I do have an Iwatch but if the phone is not working, then the watch doesn't either.

All of my other notifications work, except messenger.

Any ideas? Is there anyway to delete the cache or reinstall messenger?
