Mac Music will not play. Local network files, press play, nothing happens.

SO:

-2018 Mac Mini

-Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.3, just updated

-Music version 1.5.6.11

-I've rebooted multiple times

-song files are on a local NAS, volume is mounted

-if I right click on a song in Music, and select Show in Finder, it finds it and I can spacebar preview it no problem and hear it play; so it isn't a speaker issue.

-if I press the "Play" button in Music, the play icon gets brighter as I hold it down, then goes back to as it was, and the song does not play. Spacebar etc doesn't make it play. Even selecting "Play" in menu with a song highlighted doesn't work.

-however if I go to the iTunes Store, it'll play a song preview; just none of my local songs, so I don't think it is an audio routing issue

-if I select this music library from another Mac running iTunes, I CAN play the same songs - just not from the Mac Mini where the library lives and runs

This is a library I have forward migrated for decades without problem, this all worked a few days ago, now no songs will play.

Forty year Mac veteran and I'm kind of baffled and stuck here.

Any suggestions?
