Touch ID fails for Safari/System Passwords on Mac

Hi all. My setup: M1 Ultra/Sonoma latest/Safari latest/Magic keyboard. My Problem: Touch ID works perfectly for system login, unlocking the Mac, and Apple Pay. However, it fails specifically when trying to access Safari Passwords or the Passwords section in System Settings. Instead of showing the Touch ID prompt/glyph, the system immediately shows the "Passwords is Locked" screen and forces me to enter the user password manually. It seems like the handshake between Safari and the Secure Enclave is broken for this specific task.

As an advanced user i did the folowing;

  1. System Settings: Toggled "Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords" OFF and ON (including waiting 10s between toggles).
  2. Hardware Pairing: Connected the Magic Keyboard via USB-C to Lightning cable to force a Secure Enclave sync.
  3. Bluetooth Reset: "Forgot" the Magic Keyboard in Bluetooth settings, turned it off, and re-paired it from scratch via cable.
  4. Biometrics: Deleted all fingerprints and re-added them.
  5. Terminal: Ran sudo pkill coreauthd to reset the authentication daemon.
  6. Safari: Toggled AutoFill settings inside Safari Preferences.
  7. Reboot: Performed multiple system restarts.

Has anyone experienced this specific "partial" Touch ID failure on Apple Silicon desktops with Sonoma?
