Universal Control between Tahoe 26.X and Sequoia 15.X.X

Hi. I'm having a problem with Universal Control between my iMac and my MB Air. They see each other intermittently, connecting the keyboard and mouse long enough for the icon to appear on the status bar but trying to move from one to the other does not work because the icon disappears after about a second. Both are on the same wifi network, they're also connected via USB C and the problem persists. Tried resetting bluetooth, rebooting, updating software, no luck. I'm thinking this is a planned obsolescence thing since I updated the Air to Tahoe but the iMac will only run Sequioa but hoping someone here has a suggestion that might work. Thanks in advance

DETAILS:

2019 iMac with Intel core i7 running Sequioa 15.7.3

2022 MacBook Air M2 running Tahoe 26.2

Apple Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad

FWIW, I have an M1 MacBook Pro running Sequoia sitting next to an M4 MacBook Pro running Tahoe (the latter is in clamshell mode with a Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse connected). Universal Control works reliably between the two Macs in both directions.

First, make sure the setting to disable Universal Control when zoomed in is OFF in System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom > Advanced (button). If you use screen zoom at all, that could account for the intermittent nature of your problem.

Also, try toggling off Universal Control then back on for both Macs in System Settings > Displays > Advanced (button).

Finally, did you try signing out of then back into your Apple Account on both Macs?
