Updating New Macbook Pro to OS Tahoe

I purchased a new Macbook Pro (version 2024). It came with OS Sequoia. I would like to update to OS Tahoe. Software Update is not available and Terminal could not find the v.26.0 or v.26.2 installer. Please advise.

Not available? What do you mean by that? Every 2024 Mac I have seen has Software Update in the General section of System Settings. Unless it is a Managed computer; from whom did you purchase it new? Was it from an Apple Authorized Seller?

Terminal could not find the v.26.0 or v.26.2 installer.

How did you use Terminal to find those installers?

What do you mean, Software Update is not available?

Every Apple-Silicon-based MacBook Pro, including the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max models released in 2024, can run Tahoe. Every MacBook Pro released in November 2020 or later has an Apple Silicon processor.

Among Intel-based MacBook Pros, only the

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

can run Tahoe.

Other Intel-based MacBook Pros released in 2018, 2019, or 2020 can run Sequoia, but not Tahoe. MBPs that have a hardware model year before 2018 cannot run Sequoia or Tahoe.

Example of what the proper Terminal Command may present

If you computer is not getting Similar results

Either the Terminal Command is incorrect or possibly the computer has an MDM Profile installed that is Blocking UpGrading the computer

From a M4 Desktop already running Tahoe 26.2
