Photos App 2024 People/Faces not syncing?

How to fix problem in photos app with people/faces not syncing "unnamed" when clearly faces/people have been named. When "review more photos" - apple responds "they don't appear to be additional photos of ___"

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.1

How many different photos of the face have already been named? Photos needs a learning set of several named faces for each photos to be able to name additional photos automatically. And it can only use faces it detected itself to learn what person is looking like, sot can recognize the person on other photos as well.

Try to name all photos manually where you can see the the face of the person clearly, with "unnamed" under the face, until Photos has seen enough different faces of the same person.

You may also check, if there is more than one album for this person in People and Pets. Then merge the albums by dragging one on top of the other.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'not syncing "unnamed."' What are you "syncing" with and by what process?

If the face has "unnamed," then it means that Photos has recognized it as a face, but there's not enough information to determine its identity separate from that of others. If you type in the name, this gives Photos more information to help identify other faces it recognizes.

You can manually circle and name people that haven't been recognized as faces. That will put those pictures in the person's People album, but this ID is not used to inform future identifications.

Do you have some faces that have been identified incorrectly within Photos? If so, Photos will be using bad information, and it will have a hard time with future IDs. Correcting the wrong ones is important, but sometimes the wrong information is so conflated with the the proper identifications, that you have to start over.

I'm not sure that's so. You didn't approach some of my questions. For instance, can you tell us:

what you mean by 'not syncing "unnamed."' What are you "syncing" with and by what process?

Are you syncing with iCloud Photos at iCloud.com? It looks like you may have used "syncing" in an unusual sense. "Synchronize" means making things the same. What do you mean?

and

Do you have some faces that have been identified incorrectly within Photos?

léonie addressed the point that you need to identify several examples of a person before Photos has enough information to identify more when, as I said, " there's not enough information to determine its identity separate from that of others." Photos uses the identifications that you make to built a set of data that can be used identify more faces. If it gets incorrect or conflicting information then it may no longer be able to separate identities. What are "clearly" identical to us may not be so clear to the computer.

Thanks for your reply, but in the interest of being direct, I'm past the information you provided. I'll try to give more information. Yes the face has already been ID'd in my photos app (current version Tahoe...) It's even a favorite in the People & Pets. I see the same face in my library - almost the same exact picture - and yet the face is "unnamed". I would assume Apple photo apps "sync's" to auto find other pics similar to the one named, no? I then try to manually "Review More Photos" see attachment and the apple reply is "There don't appear to be any additional photos of (name)" when clearly there is. My question is for you or someone else is why aren't the photo's syncing to include the ones already in the library that are similar to ones already favorited? It's ok if you don't know - I'll eventually call Apple but thought maybe someone had a similar problem or go around for this issue. Thanks Apple community!
