Issues playing music from Apple Watch

Why do I have so many issues playing music on my apple watch but no issues playing music from my iphone? Problems include music playing only one song then stopping, one airpod disconnecting, and both airpods disconnecting. I've tried shutting both devices down, removing playlists then adding them back, using different earbuds, and unpairing devices.
