Do AirPods Pro 3 support lossless audio over wireless?

Hi,

I am using AirPods Pro 3 with my MacBook Pro 16 (2025)

I can see the lossless symbol, but does it really support lossless over wireless with AirPods Pro 3?

Just wanted to know what is happening here. If AirPods don't support lossless then I might just turn if off in Apple Music settings. Why waste extra processing and bandwidth if it's going to be converted to something like 256kbps when listening through AirPods. 🙂

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.2

Airpods pro in the 3rd generation does not support lossless audio due to the device’s bluetooth limitations, which is where the H2 comes into play with Live EQ and Spacial Audio. When streaming from your apple music device to your Airpod's, the format used is Advanced Audio Codec which is a lossy, compressed file; hence not able to deliver the ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec).

For true lossless, apple recommends using there USB-C - 3.5MM jack adapter and a wired audio device capable of 24 bit rate audio.
