On iOS 26 can i run contacts using only the customized icon image without posters? I sincerely dislike the entire poster experience. I hope to just turn it off but keep the custom photo icon.

No — on iOS 26, you currently can’t run Contacts with only a custom circular icon and completely ditch the full-screen poster UI. The system forces a “contact poster” overlay when you set a photo through the Contacts poster editor, and there isn’t an official setting to turn off posters while keeping custom photos.
