Wired EarPods disconnecting and ringing on iPhone 14

Hello!

I recently bought apple wired earpods with a Lightning connector, and I've just been having issues with them. If the cord moves, or sometimes for no reason at all, they will disconnect and even tho they're plugged in, my phone doesn't seem to know they're there. Along with this sometimes the music will cut out and be replaced by a very very loud and high pitched electronic ringing and I have to physically take them out.

I'm curious, does this sound more like an issue with the earpods or like a connection issue (like if i needed to clean my port)? I thought maybe it just needed cleaning but the high pitched ringing made me wonder if its an issue with the headphones?

I currently have an iPhone 14.
