WIndows Explorer/iTunes wont reccognize iPod mini

I realize there are alot of topics on this forum along these same lines (product defect?) but I'm starting a new one, because I couldn't find any helpful information in the others about my problem. I'm going to be a specific as possible.

I have a 4GB iPod mini, which has seemed to work fine since I got it last month (it was a replacement of my last iPod, from Apple, whose battery had gone bad). However, in the past few days whenever I plug it into my computer, iTunes will not reccognize it. It will not appear in My Computer, either. It will, however, display a message in the icons on the taskbar saying that a USB mass-strage device is connected. Also, the "Do Not Connect" screan appears on my iPod, when it's connected.

I've also checked under the device manager; the USB port that I plug the iPod into is powered, and it does reccognize that a USB mass storage device is being plugged in.

I've checked, and my iPod is formatted for Windows. I've also tried the "Reset all settings," opetion, but it does not help. I've also tried redownloading and reinstalling the iTunes and the iPod software. These do not help. I cannot reformat my iPod, because the iPod software doesn't reccognize that it's plugged in.

Help.

Great - how can I send it back? No one answers the phone in any of the Apple stores I call and the only service number I have no longer woks. Do you have a Apple customer service number that works in the UK? I would love to send it back for good but if I can get it repaired it would be great. Also - have they stopped manugacturing the mini ipod? Is this becasue this break so easily?

i HAVE to agree with bill. my ipod stopped working the week of thanksgiving. and i have searched this website, i have tried sooo many things, i took my ipod back to best buy, i called the apple store, three times, i took it to an apple store, i emailed the apple store. and mine STILL doesn't work. i was in another disscussion topic (ipod doesn't show up on iTunes) and there were over 150 posts on it from other people who are all having the same problem and asking eachother for questions because apple won't help them. and one girl was even saying that it was a coincidence, because WE ALL KNOW IPOD MINI'S GOT CANCELLED, and apple is keeping it a secret. she was saying how funny it was that the one apple product that was cancelled seemed to malfunction for everybody the EXACT SAME WEEK. which also just happened to be a few weeks after the ipod nano was released. COINCIDENCE?? hmm. and i think that the whole failure rate and whatever, that's understandable, but apple shouldn't act like there is no problem because THATS HOW YOU LOSE BUSINESS. if u ingore the customer. i was seriously contemplating buying a regular ipod, since they never seem to have any problems. but now i'm considering abandoning the company completely. they can't ignore SOO many people. that's rediculous.

Of course not. However, you are now in a long thread that has been threadjacked, and your needs are somewhat buried. I suggest that you re-post your problem in a new thread, reference this one (indicating what you have tried so far), and see if someone else can come up with the 'holy grail' for your issue.

Who knows, I may have missed something simple, or you might have missed a step along the way.

Best of Luck
