Mac Mini Display Problem

Hi. I have a late 2014 Mac Mini that I want to display on my Hitachi Plasma TV. It has HDMI ports, but when i connect I get no image. I have tried restarting after plugging in and still nothing. I only get the white apple image with progress bar, then it goes black. No desktop image. The mac mini works fine on a sharp lcd tv, but for some reason will not display on my Hitachi Plasma tv.
