Applying Power Mac G4 AGP firmware update 4.2.8f1

I need the instructions for applying PowerMac G4 AGP firmware update 4.2.8f1. I have the .bin update file. They may be in Apple support document 120068, which is no longer available on the Apple website, or doesn't appear from a web search.

Welcome!

I've struck out on mist of my old references too. This old MacWorld article has hints about how the installation must he done but it is by no means "in depth."

You might try reviewing this site, from one of our former contributor's PowerMac site:

I still have two working Beige G3s, so I "get" keeping old Macs running.

Yes, thank you much, that's the instructions for the firmware update I may need. I have a logic board coming that may need it. I won't know for another few days.

The instructions say: "Double-click the Power Mac G4 Firmware Updater icon." Is that an app in the disk created when the .smi disk image file is opened in Mac OS 9? I can't try it yet.

Thanks, Dave
