Looking for input on whether I should upgrade my iPhone 15 Pro Max to a 17 Pro Max or wait until the 18 comes out. I'm sure the 18 Pro Max will be more expensive (assuming they offer one as I have heard that Apple may not follow the same pattern as in the past)?

We can't give you an answer regarding what might be called an iPhone 18 Pro Max because Apple has not provided any information on a product that does not yet exist.
As users......just like you......we have no "inside information" regarding Apple's plans and Apple never tips their hand about what they might be doing in the future. Honestly, anything that you might have "heard" at this point is simply either rumor or speculation.
Your best bet would be to wait until new models are introduced.......typically in September / October if you will be considering what might be a future product.

We know nothing about the 18 so all I can tell you is that I have the 17 Pro and love the camera! It's hard to imagine how Apple can improve on that.
