MacBook Air 2020: PDF permission error

Suddenly i'm having problems opening certain .pdf files. I get a msg that I don't have permission to open or save this file. Tells me to fix the permission on the file. Did that but it doesn't help. I'm using a Macbook Air 2020 running Sequoia 15.7.3.

The files include tax instructions downloaded from IRS website

Thank you for the screenshot.

Not Having Permission for PDF:

How many users are there?

  1. Go to: Finder
  2. Tap: Hard Drive
  3. Expand: Users

Upgrade your MacOS:

Time Machine Backup:

Important: Prior to performing any of this, Create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong, doing the install.

I see you have macOS 15.7. So, for security purposes, upgrade to the most-recent compatible macOS: macOS Tahoe 26.2.

  1. Go to: System Settings
  2. Click: General
  3. Click: Check for Updates
