Dictation randomly stops working in Tahoe

I have a problem starting dictation in Tahoe. My system is set up to use an external microphone and to start accepting dictation on double clicking the control key. The problem is that it will often work well but then randomly stop working for no obvious reason. I have been through and double checked all the settings, and switched to my Studio Display microphone, but the problem persists. It looks like a bug because it works well one minute, but stops working if, for example I work on another document and then go back to dictation.

I'm sorry Eron57B, but life can't possibly be so bad that you have to switch to a PC. To be serious what I have noticed is that if the double click does not work when I'm using a Word document if you click on the desktop and then click back to the Word document it seems to work again, which is a minor irritation that hopefully can be corrected in the future update.

With every update, dictation gets worse and worse. As somebody who has a disability and relies on dictation for almost all typing, this is extremely frustrating and I’m about to switch to a PC from a Mac After 20 years. All these updates constantly get worse and worse with more glitches.
