How to recover from a macOS update hang-up with 'About 1 minute remaining'?

When I opened my Macbook pro (Intel 15" macOS 15.7.2) this morning it appears to be hung-up during a software update with "About 1 minute remaining" What's the best way to recover?

Typically, a software update or even an OS upgrade will take no more than an hour at the most.

If you feel comfortable that you've given the computer at least that much time, then you can interrupt the process by forcing a shutdown and then reboot.

Force the Mac to shut down by pressing and holding the power button until the computer goes dark. Restart the Mac again with a simple momentary press of the power button. If all goes well the Mac will reboot, wrap up the update and then take you to your login screen.

And as our friend, @Owl-53, has suggested, make sure your MBP is plugged into power.

How long has the computer been " Hung " @ " About 1 minute remaining " ?

To avoid running out of Battery Power , plug the computer into the charger

All's well, thanks for all your advice! I was overly cautious due to the "do not interrupt this process" warnings regarding updates. FYI the software update does not seem to have been installed as intended but no harm I will try again later today. Cheers

Updates can be abit stressful and some hand holding per se is all that is needed

If an error occurred while updating or installing macOS

Check storage space

If the message says that your Mac doesn't have enough storage space, free up storage space.

Sometimes this messages is not presented though, it could be the case of the Failed upDate just the same

The suggestion floated by self and colleagues is not only to keep the battery from going dead

" The installer needs a stable internet connection to download macOS and get firmware and other information specific to your Mac model "

The Firmware mentioned in above is usually Best Done while the computer is running on Electrical Power versus Battery Power

You said you woke up to this this morning. Although updates are slow and boring, I try to do mine when I can be around the computer and periodically checking its progress. Not checking constantly, but wiggling the mouse every 15 minutes or so to make sure there is progress. My one time with Sequoia, and having selected the 'do it tonight' feature, I woke up and it had done nothing. Since then I go back to being old school.
