Apple Mail preview pane stuck on one email. Anyone seen this with the new MacBook Pro M5 and Tahoe 26.2 MacOS? Any solutions?

Tahoe 26.2 Apple Mail preview pane showing only one email no matter which of the 100 or so emails I highlight. I move around the emails and the preview stays on one email. Double clicking on any email then opens the true email and shows the actual content. So preview seems to be broken. Any solutions?

I tried rebuilding that email mailbox with no luck.

In case you haven't tried already, try pressing [esc] or cmd + w.

Is there anything in the Search textbox in the top right? That's hung me up before. It requires manually clearing after doing a Search. I wish it would clear out automatically, but still remember my Search text, should I start typing it in again or show up in a drop-down list if I press the down-arrow key.
